So… What’s Behind the Squirrel?

If you’ve seen Simtek at a trade show, on LinkedIn, or our other Social media outlets, you’ve probably noticed him: our little flying squirrel.
So what’s his story?
The flying squirrel goes all the way back to the early days of Simtek, when the company softball team needed a name and a mascot. Founder Chris Cowley wanted something fun—but also something that quietly said what we do. He landed on the Flying Squirrels.
Just like a flying squirrel mimics flight - flight simulators also mimic real aircraft behavior. That connection between almost flying and simulating flight stuck—and it still fits perfectly today.
Over time, the squirrel moved from the softball field to the heart of our brand. Today you’ll find him on our marketing materials, at trade shows, and around the shop—a small reminder that:
We’re a team first.
We exist to replicate real avionics and cockpit experience as closely as possible.
We stay nimble, precise, and focused on the mission.
His true name is up for debate and held close to our hearts, and for now it remains a Simtek secret.
For our customers, he’s more than a mascot. He’s a marker that you’re working with a partner dedicated to building high-fidelity simulated avionics that our customers trust.
